Grizzlies Announce ECU and Kennesaw State Signees

Gastonia, NC- The Gastonia Grizzlies Baseball Team is proud to announce the signing of three players from Kennesaw State University and two players from East Carolina University. Brennan Morgan, Jeremy Howell and Taylor Allum with Kennesaw State and Ryan Clinch and Jackson Mims with ECU will be joining the Grizzlies for the 2015 season.

Brennan Morgan (JR-C/DH-R/R) is a workhorse catcher who started 54 games in 2014 for a team that played in a Super Regional. He was named to the All-Regional Tournament team in Tallahassee. In 2015, Morgan has started 30 games for the Owls and is third in hits with 31 and second in homeruns with three. Grizzlies head coach, Evan Wise said “we are looking for Brennan to be a middle of the order hitter for us this summer, getting power out of the catcher is a rare commodity”.

Jeremy Howell (So-2B/SS/3B-R/R) has been described by his coaches as a slick fielding infielder who can play all positions at a very high level. Howell has played in 29 games in 2015, while only making four errors so far on the season. Howell is also batting .294 and has 25 total hits. According to Wise, “Having a defender of his caliber on our infield should bring plenty of excitement to the park every night.”

Taylor Allum (RS-Fr- 1B/OF/DH-L/R) is currently leading the Owls in hitting at a .345 clip, to go along with two home runs and 12 RBIs. Wise expects Allum to be a major contributor in the middle of the Grizzlies order.

As a true freshman Ryan Clinch (FR-C/1B/2B/OF-L/R) has played in six games for East Carolina in 2015. Wise had the opportunity to see Ryan play in high school last season and he “has learned to play multiple positions while at ECU but can really hold his own behind the plate”.

Jackson Mims (FR-1B/2B/SS/3B- R-R) is a local product from Shelby High School and is having a terrific freshman year at ECU. “He has started in 18 games while hitting close to .300 and we look for him to build on his great start this summer with the Grizzlies.”

The Grizzlies open the season May 23 at home against the Martinsville Mustangs.

These outstanding athletes, plus many more talented baseball players will call Gastonia home in 2015. Box seat season tickets are sold out for the upcoming season but Grizzlies tickets plans are on sale now, including the new nine game and five game plans for the biggest games of the year.
