“Hello baseball fans!
I hope this message finds you and your family feeling happy and most importantly – healthy.
For those of you I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting, I’d like to introduce myself. My name is Claudia Padgett and I am the General Manager of the Gastonia Grizzlies. I wanted to touch base with you in regards to our Final season.
The health and safety of our fans, supporters, coaching staff, and players is our top priority. Due to the current situation, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our 2020 season. This is not something we do lightly and I know comes as a disappointment to many. We have pushed our start date to July 1 and games will run through August 15. Unfortunately, this means we have had to cut down our games from 26 to 21. The updated schedule will be available on our website. If you purchased a ticket of any kind for the 2020 season, a staff member from the Gastonia Grizzlies will be reaching out to you or, if you are part of a larger group, your Group Leader in the upcoming days to discuss your options.
You may see some summer leagues cancel or delay their seasons.
You may see some independent professional leagues cancel or delay their seasons.
You may see MiLB leagues cancel or delay their seasons.
Each league faces its own set of challenges re: geographics and player development that might not match our set of challenges.
We are in constant communication with the league office, and will continue to listen to all advice from public health professionals.
I want you to know that we, as a league, are doing everything we can to safely play ball this summer. Don’t make any assumptions about our season based on the decisions of other leagues! We have plans, backup plans, and our backup plans have backup plans. If anything changes, we’ll be sure to alert you all.”
We appreciate your patience and we look forward to seeing everyone on July 1st! Feel free to email us for more information or any questions.
